“A Daughter’s Passing”

 

1. Sorrow comes to every life.

            Job 17:7 My eye has also grown dim because of sorrow

Psalms 38:17 For I am ready to fall, And my sorrow is continually before me.

            Adam lost his first two sons, one to murder, one to crime.

           

2. When Sorrow comes, questions follow.

            One description of my feelings over the last few weeks is Ps. 77:1-9.

            I have felt fear of God and have complained to God. 3

            I have wondered if God was unhappy with me. 7

            I have asked, where is His mercy and His promises. 8

            I have cried out for His grace, but not felt it. 9

 

3. Our sorrow doesn't define us, our response to it does. James 5:11

            We should not grieve as those with no hope, because we have hope.

            We should grieve as those who have hope.

Our hope is in Christ

 

The dead in Christ are sleeping – life does not end in death, it changes addresses.

2Co 5:8 We are confident, yes, well pleased rather to be absent from the body and to be present with the Lord.

                       

The resurrection will happen – Jesus will come again and call both the dead in Christ and the living to join Him in Heaven.

            My daughter will hear his voice and awake.

We will hear the sound of the trumpet and the voice of God! We will be changed and taken up.  Sorrow will be turned to joy that day.

           

4. For now, sorrow is a part of our God-designed lives. Eccl. 7:2-4

            Our hearts grow through sorrow.

            What lessons will we learn?

                        Life is uncertain, my decisions today are important. Ps. 39:5; Job 14:1

                        Each day is a gift from God. Ps. 90:12

 

What decision do you need to make today?  Are you certain that you can put it off till tomorrow?  What will you do with this gift from God? Will you use it to live for God or for self and sin?
